Upload documents

Goal: Add PDF, DOCX, TXT, or HTML files to a knowledge base.

  1. Go to Knowledge bases in the dashboard.
  2. Open the knowledge base you want to populate.
  3. Click Upload or drag files into the upload area.

Assign a classification level per file or accept the KB default:

LevelUse when
publicSafe for any visitor-facing assistant
internalTeam-only context
confidentialSensitive business data
restrictedHighest sensitivity; limit assistant exposure
StatusMeaning
ProcessingExtracting text, chunking, embedding
IndexedReady for retrieval
FailedExtraction or indexing error — check file format and retry

Each upload creates a snapshot — an immutable copy of the file at upload time. Replacing a document adds a new snapshot; previous versions remain in history.

Uploads count against your plan’s document count and storage quotas. If you hit a limit:

  1. Remove unused documents, or
  2. Upgrade on Billing → Plans — see Plans compared
  1. Attach the knowledge base to an assistant — Attach knowledge bases.
  2. Open Test chat and ask a question answered in the uploaded file.
  3. Confirm the reply reflects your content with citations.
